A zero-tension loop rewinder for colour inkjet printers, back-feeding printers, and any printer too sensitive to tolerate rewind force without registration or artifact problems. A free-hanging loop forms between the printer and the tensioning roller, eliminating all tension on the printer; a chassis-mounted photo-detector starts and stops rewinding based on the loop's depth.
