DTM LX4000e

The LX4000e is a desktop colour label printer for companies that print their own product labels in short and medium runs — food and drink, cosmetics, specialty products, samples and private label. Photos, gradients, logos and barcodes come out in a single pass, in 16.7 million colours, and a design can be changed between one label and the next.

Its main difference from smaller colour printers is the ink system. Cyan, magenta and yellow sit in three separate 60 ml tanks that feed a pre-primed, reusable printhead, so ink and printhead are replaced independently and the cost per label is much lower. The tanks are visible through the cover, so the ink level can be checked at a glance. Dye ink gives the brightest colours; pigment ink gives labels that hold up better against water and light.

It takes rolls up to 152 mm outer diameter on a 76 mm core, internally or from an external unwinder, prints from 13 to 210 mm wide and up to 1.5 m long, and has a built-in label cutter. It connects over USB or wired Ethernet, and the powder-coated metal enclosure suits the production floor as well as the office.
